Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2025

TL;DR

Your data never leaves your device. We don't collect it, we don't store it, we don't sell it. There are no accounts, no analytics, no cloud servers. Everything happens locally on your iPhone.

What data does offload collect?

None. offload is designed from the ground up to be a local-first application.

  • Your voice recordings are processed entirely on your device using on-device AI models
  • Your notes, transcriptions, and any content you create are stored only in your device's local database
  • No data is transmitted to our servers, because we don't have servers
  • No account or sign-up is required to use the app

How does transcription work?

offload uses Apple's on-device speech recognition and local AI models (like WhisperKit) to transcribe your voice notes. This processing happens entirely on your iPhone's Neural Engine. Your audio is never sent to any external server — not ours, not Apple's, not anyone's. The app works fully offline.

What about AI features?

All AI-powered features (summarization, action item extraction, tagging) run locally on your device using on-device models. When available, offload uses Apple Intelligence. As a fallback, it uses open-source models that run entirely on your iPhone. No cloud AI services are used.

Do you use analytics or tracking?

No. We don't use any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, or third-party services. We have no idea how many people use the app, how often, or for what. That's intentional.

What happens when I export notes?

When you export a note to another app (like Obsidian, Notion, or Files), the content is shared directly from your device to that app using iOS's standard sharing mechanisms. We are not involved in that transfer and have no access to the exported content. Once exported, your data is subject to that app's privacy policy.

What about the Share Extension?

When you share a link to offload from another app (like Safari or Twitter), the app fetches the content from that URL directly on your device to extract the title and description. This network request goes directly from your device to the source website — we don't proxy or log these requests.

How is my data stored?

All your notes and app data are stored in a local SQLite database on your iPhone. This data is protected by iOS's built-in security features, including device encryption. If you delete the app, all data is permanently deleted with it.

Do you sell data?

No. We don't have your data, so we couldn't sell it even if we wanted to. We don't want to.

Children's privacy

offload does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected or transmitted, the app is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Given our commitment to local-first architecture, we don't anticipate significant changes. If we ever introduce features that involve data transmission, we'll make it opt-in and clearly disclosed.
